Volunteer Opportunity:

Many opportunities for helping pets get adopted, including:

  •  Matchmaker Off-Site Adoptions: At adoption events held in various locations, volunteers walk dogs, groom cats, set up cages, transport animals, interview potential adopters, answer questions, clean cages and return them to storage.
  • Low Cost Spay and Neuter Programs: PAWS hosts a clinic in Hancock County every other month. Volunteers assist by monitoring cats before and after surgery, placing drops in cats eyes, returning cats to carriers and assisting with checkout at day's end. Also need help transporting animals to these clinics in Hamilton and Marion counties.
  • Foster Programs: Foster homes are needed for homeless dogs and cats of all ages, breeds and sizes. An animal remains in foster care from two days to several months. Please contact us for an application.
  • Classroom Education Programs: PAWS humane educators present about 300 programs a year to elementary students. Many include live animals and volunteers must be learn about and be trained to handle a wide variety of animals, such as horses, cats, insects, snakes, turtles and ferrets.

Volunteer Opportunity:

Helping pet owners who need assistance to keep their pets healthy and safe.

  • Pick up food from local retailers, deliver to storage area and distribute to clients who are low-income, disabled or elderly.
  • Assist elderly or disabled residents who are unable to transport their pets to the vet's office. Volunteers with good driving records are need to provide this service.

Volunteer Time:

  • Depends upon the volunteer assignment and the volunteer's schedule.

Volunteer Requirements:

  • Good driving record; comfortable dealing with cats and dogs.

Mission Statement: T0 promote animal welfare in Hancock County through humane education and pet population by developing and providing humane education programs that teach kindness to and respect for all living things; helping animals housed in animal care shelters by promoting shelter adoptions and by providing improvements to shelter facilities and training for shelter staff and volunteers; and promoting shelter and community-based pet sterilization programs.
